How to clean your cooking grates
Filthy grates are such a pain to deal with in the spring or at the start of the summer when you haven't touched them all winter.
Did you know that some of our customers even replace these grates each year rather than look after them properly but it couldn't be easier to clean Weber cooking grates.
There is no need to take the grates off, dishwash, pressure wash or anything drastic!
Instead just do the following each and every time BEFORE you go to cook on your Weber:
Preheat your cooking grates at a high temperature (all burners on full if you're using a gas grill).
Wait for 10-15 mins (if you're a regular griller then don't worry about any food from the last BBQ that still happens to be stuck on the grates).
Food from your last cook will carbonise..
Brush clean using a Weber T-Brush.
You are now ready to grill, as simple as that.
If you know that you're not going to use your BBQ for a while then you could follow this easy process at the end of your cook also.
Packing away your BBQ?
Our steps to prepare your weber BBQ for the cold months ahead
Summer over? Whilst we advocate grilling all year round whatever the weather we understand that with the shorter days and cooler weather; many people pack their grills away for the winter.
Garden pests like mice have been known to take up residence inside an unused BBQ, the lid provides plenty of shelter and leftover bits of food make your Weber an even greater prospect. Likewise mould feeds on organic matter so will quickly build up on leftover food, fat and cooking residue. If you're not grilling often or packing away then we think it's very important to leave your BBQ clean for the winter season.
Even if you're planning on grilling 365 a years then performing a deep clean once a season will serve you well. Here are some handy tips to help you look after your beloved weber BBQ.
Caring for a Weber Gas BBQ
Make sure your BBQ is totally cool - take a Weber T-brush and a plastic weber scraper to scrub the inside of your lid and remove built up carbon.
Then brush the grates clean with your T-brush to get rid of all the debris from this process and any build up from your last barbecue.
Lightly scrape/brush clean the Flavorizer Bars® and Heat Deflectors until these are also free from cooking debris/residue.
Do the same thing with the burner tubes but be very careful to avoid damage - brush across and not down the length of the burners, avoid the ignition electrodes completely. If any of the holes are blocked and you can't brush the debris free using a brush then then try using a pin or needle to do so (blocked portholes will reduce the performance of your BBQ).
Use your plastic scraper to scrape off grease and chip off any other debris on the bottom and sides of the aluminium cookbox. Simply push down the rubbish into your drip pan for easy removal.
Replace the drip dray with a fresh one. Even if it's not full, you want to remove as much grease and food residue as possible from inside your BBQ as this could attract unwelcome wildlife.
Perform a gas leak test - check your gas hose for splits/cracks, dab on a mixture of fairy liquid and water to all areas where you suspect there might be a leak and also on all connection points. Then (with the control knobs off) switch on the gas. If bubbles appear then you have a leak. If you have leak do not use the grill until you've fixed this problem or had your BBQ checked by a Weber technician. You may need to replace the gas hose and regulator.
Use weber enamel cleaner and stainless steel cleaner to spray down the exterior of your BBQ, wipe clean.
You can now put the cover on your Weber BBQ. You don't need to bring your barbecue inside for the winter, a heavy duty Weber Cover will suffice to protect your investment.
Caring for a Weber Charcoal BBQ
Make sure your BBQ is totally cool - take a Weber T-brush and a plastic weber scraper to scrub the inside of your lid and remove built up carbon.
Then brush both the cooking grates and the charcoal grate clean with your T-brush to get rid of all the debris from this process and any build up from your last barbecue.
Use your plastic scraper to chip off any debris from the inside of the kettle bowl.
Use the Weber One-Touch Cleaning System™ to push any ash and debris into the ash catcher.
Empty the ash catcher (ash left sitting in the ash catcher can promote corrosion and attract unwelcome wildlife too).
Use weber enamel cleaner to clean the outside of the lid and bowl, wipe clean.
You can now put the cover on your Weber BBQ. You don't need to bring your barbecue inside for the winter, a heavy duty Weber Cover will suffice to protect your investment.
